RAISING RESILIENT GIRLS

MON, APR 9, 6:30 - 8 PM IN THE PS 154 MMR
$25 PER PERSON

Raising Resilient Girls is a 1 hour talk by Girls Leadership Co-Founder Simone Marean. The talk will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A session for parents, teachers, and community members.

Girls Leadership speaks to parents and teachers across the country about the challenges girls face today, the reasons why we see girls struggling, and what we can do to help them. In this acclaimed 1-hour talk (followed by a 30 minute Q&A), we share how to help girls practice assertive self-expression, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships, preparing them for a life of personal and social leadership. This engaging presentation covers the development of girl dynamics beginning in preschool through high school.

As written up in Parents Magazine, this talk concentrates on practical advice that can be executed in a real-life setting, such as:

  • Talking about your own not-so-happy feelings;

  • Sharing your mistakes;

  • Helping your daughter to solve her own problems;

  • The Good Girl Phenomenon and conflict as an opportunity for positive change

This presentation is for adults only.

EARTH DAY: CLOTHING, SHOE, & TEXTILE DRIVE

APRIL 16-20 IN THE MMR

Textile waste adds significantly to the city’s waste stream -- and yet so much of it can be reused or recycled. During the week leading up to Earth Day, the PTA’s Sustainability Committee will be collecting textiles for reuse and recycling. Get your spring clean on! And help us raise money for our kids at the same time: The PTA will earn a dime on every pound collected.

Please bring in clean clothing, shoes, sneakers, hats, linens, towels, handbags, and belts. Note that we can’t accept scraps, rugs, comforters or pillows.

DROP OFF: Collection bins in PTA Office

SURVEYS DUE APRIL 20

extended for online submissions only

OK — we know you care, but just haven’t gotten a chance to do the survey yet. Right!? Parents who care enough to do the survey are the ones who help decide how we improve our school. Only 43% of you have filled it out. Let’s hear from EVERYONE!

The NYC School Survey went home in backpacks. Each school is required to participate. The survey is completely confidential and gives us a picture of our learning environment from both parent and teacher perspectives. If you lost your survey code, please go online and follow the prompts to get a new one. Online submissions are now due April 20, but please do your part and complete it as soon as possible.

HAVE A GREAT BREAK, EVERYONE!
