FROM YOUR SLT: A NEW LUNCH MENU

What’s for lunch? Check out the NEW menu that started May 1. We switched to a menu that we’ve been told is NYC kids’ favorite—any compliments or concerns? Please let us know at SLT_Info@ps154.org.

This year, the School Leadership Team (SLT) has been discussing our school lunch menu (Alternative menu) based on longtime complaints from families and staff. Complaints include a decline in quality of the alternative menu food as well as concerns that very few children are eating the hot lunch options even now that there is no cost. Most children either bring lunch or opt for the cold sandwiches and the low numbers have put our hot lunch program in jeopardy. If too few children opt for hot lunch, we will end up having only cold food (i.e. sandwiches). We are obliged to make a change in order to continue to provide a hot lunch for our children, including the 14% in poverty who may depend on school lunch and not have the option of packing something from home. In March the SLT came to consensus on this matter and on May 1st we officially switched to the regular lunch menu.  We have been told that other schools are making this choice for the same reason. The SLT is interested in your feedback. Please email us at: SLT_Info@ps154.org.

SPRING FLING

Saturday, May 19, 3-7pm
Science show by Tiny Scientist at 4:30pm

It will be a thrilling afternoon in the schoolyard for the annual spring PTA fundraiser. We have a science theme this year which means, along with inflatable rides, live music, festive food, games, crafts, and more, there will be a main stage science show with experiments by Tiny Scientist! Join us!

WE NEED A PA SYSTEM!

We are in desperate need of a PA system to borrow so that the bands can play. The PTA does not have the budget to purchase a PA system and we have always relied upon our parent body to loan us the equipment which we will care for and return to you same-day. If you or any of your musically-oriented friends / colleagues / contacts are able to help us out, we'd greatly appreciate it! Please email pta_info@ps154.org.

AND WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!

We can't do it without you. Please consider VOLUNTEERING for a shift HERE.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES
& FAMILY POTLUCK DINNER

TUES, May 22
Parent Teacher Conferences: 4:30–6:15pm
Potluck Dinner: 6:15pm – 7:30pm

(This went home in backpacks last week)

From 4:30 – 6:15pm, parents are invited to meet with classroom and cluster teachers. This is not a traditional Parent Teacher Conference. Please note that because of the number of students we serve, conferences are by appointment only. There will be no report cards given prior to this conference. These meetings are intended for parents who have follow-up questions after the March conferences or have questions related to how to best support their child over the next month and through the summer.

Please indicate on the form that went home in backpacks if you plan to attend. The teacher will assign the time of your conference. Time for each conference will be determined by demand. Your teacher may reach out to you if he/she feels that a conference is necessary. Conferences will be a minimum of ten minutes, and if a teacher cannot meet with all of his/her parents on the 22nd, that teacher will schedule an alternative time with you.

We also hope you can join us for our first ever Family Potluck after our evening conferences from 6:15pm – 7:30pm. This will be a time when parents, students and teachers are out socializing in the school yard (weather permitting) and enjoying each other with some delicious food.
