Poetry Journal - Volunteers Needed!
Volunteers needed for the Poetry Journal. From (approximately) February - April, work with class parents to coordinate and gather poems from teachers, ensuring that we don't miss anyone. This can be done in the evenings at your own pace, as long as deadlines are met. Or... help in June when the journal needs to go to the printer or is ready for distribution. This is usually more of a sprint to the finish line, a.k.a. the last day of school. Finally, help to publicize and staff the annual Poetry Extravaganza, when the students read their work, likely the week of May 6th. Please email pta_info@ps154.org if you are able to lend a hand!

COMMUNITY EVENTS
Windsor Terrace Library - Closure & Repairs
Thurs, Jan 17, 6-7:30 pm
at the Windsor Terrace Library, 160 E 5th St
Please RSVP by emailing Mike Fieni at mfieni@bklynlibrary.org or calling 718-230-2052.
From Brad Lander’s Office: “This is a community meeting regarding the closure of the Windsor Terrace Library (which even though is in Windsor Terrace I know is used by many Kensington residents as well). The library has to undergo necessary extensive repairs to replace its HVAC (heating/ventilation/air conditioning) system and unfortunately will be closed as of February 2, 2019 and re-open in 2020. I know this is a very long time to be without the local library branch, which is why I encourage you to attend the library’s community meeting to learn more about the repairs as well as the interim library service that will be offered during the closure period.”
Ocean Parkway Pedestrian Bridge - Parks Upgrades
Wed, Jan 23, 6:30-8 pm
PS 130 Upper School, 713 Caton Avenue
RSVP to Catherine Zinnel atczinnel@council.nyc.gov
From Brad Lander’s Office: “On Wednesday January 23rd, the New York City Parks Department will discuss potential upgrades to the two green spaces on either side of the Ocean Parkway Service Road. Last year Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams and I allocated $650,000 to refurbish the sitting area on East 8th Street and the park on Sherman Street, and at this meeting the Parks Department will update us on their plans and listen to your suggestions for how to improve these spaces. We will also share updates on the different development projects in the “Stable Brooklyn” area, including the rezoning of nearby 57 Caton Place, and the preservation of Kensington Stables.”
