HELP WANTED: TEACHER/STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK

Every year our school rallies to cheer on and celebrate all of the teachers and staff at PS 154 who work so hard to make our kids' school an incredible place to learn. This year, we will celebrate Teacher/Staff Appreciation during the week of May 6-10. We need parent help to get all of our ducks in a row. If you are interested in helping us organize and execute an amazing week for our teachers, please email Lisa Rochlin at rochlin_L@yahoo.com. No amount of time is too little. Even an hour of help will go a long way.

Students and their guests will work on a project that helps the students identify all the strengths they have to draw upon. This is the project if you want to take a look.

Poetry Journal - Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers needed for the Poetry Journal.  From (approximately) February - April, work with class parents to coordinate and gather poems from teachers, ensuring that we don't miss anyone.  This can be done in the evenings at your own pace, as long as deadlines are met. Or... help in June when the journal needs to go to the printer or is ready for distribution. This is usually more of a sprint to the finish line, a.k.a. the last day of school. Finally, help to publicize and staff the annual Poetry Extravaganza, when the students read their work, likely the week of May 6th. Please email pta_info@ps154.org if you are able to lend a hand!

at the Windsor Terrace Library, 160 E 5th St

Please RSVP by emailing Mike Fieni at mfieni@bklynlibrary.org or calling 718-230-2052.

From Brad Lander’s Office: “This is a community meeting regarding the closure of the Windsor Terrace Library (which even though is in Windsor Terrace I know is used by many Kensington residents as well). The library has to undergo necessary extensive repairs to replace its HVAC (heating/ventilation/air conditioning) system and unfortunately will be closed as of February 2, 2019 and re-open in 2020. I know this is a very long time to be without the local library branch, which is why I encourage you to attend the library’s community meeting to learn more about the repairs as well as the interim library service that will be offered during the closure period.”

A NOTE FROM OUR ADMINISTRATION:
GRADE LEVEL ASSEMBLIES HAVE BEGUN!

This week, we had our first monthly assemblies.  Kindergarten and first grade had theirs on Thursday and the second and third graders had theirs today. Fourth and fifth grade are scheduled for next Friday. These assemblies provide us with a great opportunity for community building. At each event, we discuss the 3Cs (Courage, Curiosity and Caring) and have students perform or showcase their school work. This week, our performances included singing, dancing, musical instruments, jokes and magic. We even had an incredible science experiment.

Ms. Graham’s class performed a skit, that they developed, based on our November diversity book, One by Kathryn Otoshi. Check out the video!

A NOTE FROM THE CHILD MIND INSTITUTE: TIPS FOR WINTER BREAK

We all look forward to holidays and vacations, but for children they can also be challenging. Unstructured time, departure from routine, and the demands of travel are unsettling for many kids and families.

This tip sheet, Tips for Winter Break, may be helpful for parents and caregivers looking for information about how to make the upcoming winter break both fun and relaxing for the whole family. Please share this document with parents and caregivers.  More information on this topic may be found here.
