May Parent Teacher Conferences

Wed, May 15, 4:30–7:30 pm

Parents are invited to meet with classroom and cluster teachers. This is not a traditional Parent Teacher Conference. Please note that because of the number of students we serve, conferences are by appointment only. There will be no report cards given prior to this conference. These meetings are intended for parents who have follow-up questions after the March conferences or have questions related to how to best support their child over the next month and through the summer.

Please indicate on the form here (also going home in backpacks) if you plan to attend. The teacher will assign the time of your conference. Time for each conference will be determined by demand. Your teacher may also reach out to you directly if he/she feels that a conference is necessary. Conferences will be approximately ten minutes, and if a teacher cannot meet with all of his/her parents in need on May 15, that teacher will schedule an alternative time with you.

Please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions.

PRESENTATION AND BOOK SIGNING BY “PEACEFUL PARENT, HAPPY KIDS” AUTHOR, DR. LAURA MARKHAM.

THURSDAY, MAY 2, 6:30 - 8:30PM

Dr. Laura Markham is coming to PS 154 to share practical, everyday strategies to help you raise a child who WANTS to cooperate, by working with your child rather than trying to manipulate or control. In this talk, there will be a long Q&A at the end to ask individual questions about your own parenting, and you'll learn:

• Why yelling, threats and punishment actually create more misbehavior.
• How children develop self-discipline and learn to regulate their emotions.
• Your secret weapon to get your child cooperating.
• The most important parenting habit to create a peaceful home.
• Strategies to handle your own strong emotions so you can help your child.
