POTLUCK DINNER - 6:15-7:30pm

RAISING RESILIENT GIRLS

MON, APR 9, 6:30 - 8 PM IN THE PS 154 MMR
$25 PER PERSON

Raising Resilient Girls is a 1 hour talk by Girls Leadership Co-Founder Simone Marean. The talk will be followed by a 30 minute Q&A session for parents, teachers, and community members.

Girls Leadership speaks to parents and teachers across the country about the challenges girls face today, the reasons why we see girls struggling, and what we can do to help them. In this acclaimed 1-hour talk (followed by a 30 minute Q&A), we share how to help girls practice assertive self-expression, emotional intelligence and healthy relationships, preparing them for a life of personal and social leadership. This engaging presentation covers the development of girl dynamics beginning in preschool through high school.

As written up in Parents Magazine, this talk concentrates on practical advice that can be executed in a real-life setting, such as:

  • Talking about your own not-so-happy feelings;

  • Sharing your mistakes;

  • Helping your daughter to solve her own problems;

  • The Good Girl Phenomenon and conflict as an opportunity for positive change

This presentation is for adults only.

THE SLT IS INTERVIEWING PRINCIPAL CANDIDATES

Your School Leaderships Team (SLT) will be interviewing Superintendent Skop’s top three candidates for our PS 154 Principal position in early January. Do you have thoughts you’d like to share? Please reach out to the SLT Parents with your point of view. We read all messages! We’d love to hear your point of view about PS 154 and our future. SLT_Info@ps154.org

Learn more about your School Leadership Team, and read recent meeting minutes, at ps154.org/school-leadership-team-slt.

ATTENTION: FAMILIES OF CHILDREN WITH INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLANS (IEPs)

Your teacher has given you a letter from Principal Buckley with a link to a very important survey. It is very important that every student with an IEP has a parent fill out this survey. This anonymous, internal survey, for which only Mr. Buckley will have the complete results, is designed to help PS 154 become better aware of parent and family experiences for those families with children with IEPs. If you need the link to the survey, it is below. Please fill out one survey for every child in your family who has an IEP.

SOCK DRIVE — THANK YOU!

We had a fantastic turnout for the first of our School Spirit days! Not only did the kids have fun wearing their Silly Socks to school, they learned about helping those less fortunate by donating socks for families in need. Thank you for your generosity!

Today, we are collecting donations of winter hats for adults and children that are brand-new with tags and original packaging. We will send these to a local shelter. Your children can drop off their hats to the MMR.

AROUND THE CITY

School Crossing Guard Recruitment

The district is hiring crossing guards. We love our school crossing guards, Susan & Veronica, but sometimes they need to be out and the city doesn’t have enough staff to send backup. If you or someone you know is interested in applying, you can find out more info here.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES

THURSDAY, DEC 7, DISMISSAL AT 11:30 AM

Forms are being sent home via backpack by Monday with more information about making an appointment for this date.

Please note, it is difficult to meet with everyone in the short time teachers are given for this. Teachers are allotted a limited amount of time on this day to discuss your child's progress so we are asking that you arrive on time to your appointments. If you are late, you will most likely have to reschedule for another date. The teachers have to keep to their schedule so they will need to limit your questions. If you have other concerns that aren't able to be discussed, please send a note to your teacher to meet at another time.

In addition, if you cannot meet on December 7 during the times available (12:30–2:30 pm or 4:30-7:30 pm), please make alternate arrangements directly with your teachers. (Throughout the year, dedicated time for parents to conference with teachers is on Tuesdays after school. You can contact your child’s teacher for more information about this parent time.)

You can contact your teacher directly if you have questions, or contact our Parent Coordinator, Debby Wattenbarger, at dwattenbarger@schools.nyc.gov.
