TALKING ABOUT RACE FOR PARENTS: Raising Children for Racial Justice

Presentation by Staff from Border Crossers, a national organization that trains educators and parents to dismantle patterns of racism and injustice in our schools and communities. While all tickets to this event have already been reserved, we encourage you to sign up for the wait list in case of cancellations.

PS 154 Garden Harvest Day

Our fabulously green garden committee will serve food prepared from 154’s very own herbs and vegetables.  Stick around after school to sample delicious and healthy fare that’s as local as it gets!

ADVOCACY SKILLS FOR PARENTS

MON, SEP 18, 2017, 6:45 - 8:15 pm in the MMR

Learn how to speak up for your child with a disability. Become your child’s best advocate and get them the support and services they need in any situation, including in school, in the community, and with healthcare. This event has been organized by the Committee for Students With Special Needs — all parents are invited whether their children are typically developing or have special needs. Learn essential elements of advocacy parents need to resolve disagreements in any system, including entitlements, business, medical or education. Presentation by INCLUDEnyc and is free admission. Please RSVP here.

 


FAIRWAY DOUBLE DAY

Hear about our goals for the year, see what events are being planned, and get involved. We will elect new PTA Executive Board members and new School Leadership Team (SLT) members.

REMINDER: Arrival and Dismissal Procedure: Check out the plan for Monday, School Day #3!

We’re back to our regular schedule. Please note, the schoolyard doors close promptly at 8:20am so if you arrive later, you will need to bring your child to the main entrance to sign in and pick up a late pass.

KINDERGARTEN AFTER SCHOOL ORIENTATION AND ALL-KINDERGARTEN PLAYDATE
TUES, SEPT 6 IN THE SCHOOLYARD

At 9 am, our PTA After School Kindergarten Orientation will begin. Are you considering using our After School program for your kindergartener now or in the future? Join us.

At 10:30 am, we welcome all kindergarteners and their families to briefly meet the kindergarten teachers and then adjourn to the schoolyard for snacks and play until noon. Children are welcome with parents or babysitters, and siblings are also invited to attend.
 


BACK-TO-SCHOOL PAJAMA PARTY MOVIE NIGHT
FRI, SEPT 15

Doors open at 5:45pm for play in the schoolyard, Movie starts at 6:15pm

This is especially relevant because of new legislation just signed by Governor Cuomo, which will instruct the State Department of Education to develop a guidance memorandum for schools, consistent with federal requirements, and inform schools that they may include the names of specific learning disorders, such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, or dyscalculia in IEPs.
