SUPPORT SERVICES UPDATE

Dear Families,

Thank you for your patience as we work to build our OT team. My goal is to bring on experienced, collaborative providers who will help us create an amazing program.

Meghan Pascullo, has decided to move on and will not be working with us. Her last day is Friday, 11/16.

Our new OT, Elizabeth Medina is a veteran therapist and has extensive experience in a variety of settings. She will begin on Friday 11/16.  As soon as we work out a schedule we will let you know.

Additionally, our newest speech provider Rinat Akiva will be back next week. We have been dealing with some processing issues with the DOE but it seems to be figured out.

Please reach out with any questions or concerns.

PTA GENERAL MEETING

MON, NOV 19 AT 6:30 PM IN THE MMR

PLEASE JOIN US AT ADIRONDACK AFTER THE MEETING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO CHAT MORE AND CATCH UP WITH FRIENDS.

PRE READ FOR MEETING

Pizza + Babysitting available for school-aged children for a suggested donation of $5 per child.

Highlights will include a SEE Committee update:

  • Renaming the SEE Committee

  • SEL (Social & Emotional Learning) — what is it, exactly, and does my kid need it?

  • Upcoming programming: monthly parenting talks, book club

AND a parenting talk, "Raising your child's EQ," by Jane Bliss Birk, Leadership Coach and Facilitator SEE Committee Co-chair & 4th grade parent

Emotional intelligence is a hot topic for adults and children alike. Science is showing us that a person’s ability to manage his/her emotions (Emotional Intelligence Quotient - EQ) determines the quality of his life more fundamentally than IQ. Let’s look at what happens to the brain during meltdowns and tantrums (of both the adult and kid variety) and practice tools to calm the storm and raise EQ for more peaceful, productive exchanges with our kids.

COAT & BOOT DRIVE FOR A SCHOOL IN NEED

Please bring in your gently loved winter coats and boots — in adult and childrens’ sizes — for a winter coat/boot drive for one of our District 15 schools in need of assistance. We would like to deliver our collection to them on Nov. 20th. Please put in blue Ikea bags in MMR stage by the flags.

Thank you so much for your generosity helping out our fellow District 15 families.

SUSTAINABILITY COMMITTEE TEXTILE DRIVE

NOV 26-30 IN THE MMR

Textile waste adds significantly to the waste stream — and yet so much of it can be reused or recycled. Join the PTA’s Sustainability Committee in collecting textiles for reuse and recycling. Take the opportunity to recycle unneeded stuff AND help raise money for our kids: The PTA will earn a dime on every pound collected!

What we can accept: clean clothing, shoes, sneakers, hats, linens, towels, handbags, and belts. We cannot accept scraps, rugs, comforters or pillows.

Collection bins will be located in MMR after Nov 26.

GIVING TUESDAY AT PS 154

Tues, NOV 27 — or today!

This day is a national movement that encourages holiday giving, rather than just spending. This year, the PS 154 PTA invites you to take this opportunity to help raise funds for the most important non-profit in your life: your child’s education.

Historically, only about one third of our community has contributed to our Annual Fund - and this year, we are striving for 100% participation. The strength of our community is one of the most wonderful aspects of our school.
